A Unique Invitation to Video Journalists – Filming in the Azores
Circom Regional is pleased to announce a unique co-production/training opportunity for 10 video journalists attached to member stations. At the invitation of our colleagues in RTP Azores and the Azores Regional Government, we have been asked to invite 10 video journalists to take part in the “Azores VJ Stories” project.
Ten experienced VJs will be invited to the Azores to make stories about the islands. They will be “shadowed” by a local employee of RTP who will be trained in what it takes to become a video journalist.
The Azores consists of 9 islands and a VJ and his or her companion will be sent to one of the islands to make 2 or 3 stories over a period of 5 days; 2 VJs will stay on the largest island of San Miguel.
There will be no editorial control over the stories, just quality control, and there must be a guarantee that the stories made by a VJ will be broadcast on their home station. A screening of the best stories will be shown in the Azores before the VJs leave; so VJs will not only need their cameras but also their laptops.
All the stories filmed by the 10 VJs will be made into international versions for all Circom members to use, as stations may wish to run a series of packages about the Azores, or even decide to make them into longer feature programmes.
VJs will be asked to do some research to try to find stories that are relevant or linked to their region or country. They must take into account that only 2 VJs will be working on San Miguel, so it is important that they look for stories connected to any one of the 9 Azores islands. Circom will retain the right to allocate the island locations in the event that not all the islands are covered by the VJs applying. Circom also reserves the right in the selection process of the VJs.
Flights and accommodation will be paid for to and from a major European destination where SATA Airways fly. These include Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Oslo, London and Madrid. Flights and accommodation within the Azores will also be paid for. VJs must cover their own travel to and from the European airport, their meals and other daily expenses and must have third party, travel and medical insurance.
The “Azores VJ Stories” project will take place between 16th and 23rd October 2010.
