Due to the success, requests and the exceptional feedback from the Santiago Mobile Journalism workshop, CIRCOM changed the it's VJ training to a mobile journalism workshop taking place in Budapest from 7th-11th October 2013.

This training offers an exceptional opportunity for journalists to learn new techniques and be introduced to the latest developments in MoJo reporting.

The main objectives of the course:

  • To give participants training to a level where they are competent in the use of smart phones for filming, recording audio, file transfer and live transmissions.
  • To give participants experience in using a laptop and/or ipad editing software.
  • To learn how to develop story ideas within the limitations of an iphone.
  • To get to know the hardware, software and apps that are available to them.
  • To understand the workflow in order to avoid mistakes.
  • To give participant’s the necessary skills and confidence to work with a smart phone when appropriate.

Here's what workshop delegates had to say about the course ...

Ian Barmer, Senior Broadcast Journalist, BBC East, UK:

“I have attended numerous courses at the BBC but I have to say this was by far the most interesting course I have been on”.

Andreea Stiliuc, Video Journalist, TVR Iasi, Romania:

“This training has been so inspiring for me and for the entire group! We were so lucky to be there! And it is not just the information you give us, because the Internet is full of information. It is this human connection, this power you give us to discover a new world and the confidence to do things we haven’t done before. And it is also this wonderful friendship that rises between us”.

Michaela Petek, Lecturer in Video Journalism, University of Eichstatt, Germany:

“I found it in the beginning quite difficult but within three days I got quite used to it and I found it a really great experience to be with you here and I enjoyed it very much.”

Aisling Riordan, Reporter, RTE Ireland:

“The biggest thing I will take away from this week is that anything is possible, with the iphone and the ipad you can make a report as well as for breaking news.”

Friso Richter, Reporter, Hessischer Rundfunk, Germany:

“I have never filmed or edited before and after one week I can edit on an ipad and film on an iphone and the results I think are unbelievable”
