The Organisation
The Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation is a corporate body, established under the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation Law as the public broadcasting service of Cyprus. CyBC is administered by a Board of Governors appointed by the Council of Ministers for a three-year term. The current Chairman of the Board is Dr. Makis Symeou. The chief executive officer of the Corporation is the Director General. The current Director General is Mr. Themis Themistocleous. CyBC is a not for profit organisation and uses its entire income for the promotion of its objectives i.e. providing informative, cultural and entertainment programmes to the people of Cyprus. The Corporation derives its income from advertising and sponsored programmes on radio and television; and an annual state subsidy.
Radio
First Programme (FM:97.2 ΜΗz, 92.4 ΜΗz and ΜW:963 KHz) has been on the air since the early 1950s. Today, it carries news, current affairs, cultural, athletic and musical programmes, in Greek. It also carries programmes made especially for the Maronite and Latin (Catholic) religious groups. In addition, it airs programmes for overseas Cypriots. One such programme, entitled “Cyprus, my home Country” is sent to and re-broadcast by 22 Greek-language radio stations throughout the world.
Second Programme (FM:91.1 ΜΗz, 97.9 ΜΗz) has been on the air since the mid-1950’s. It broadcasts news, current affairs and entertainment in Turkish, English, and Armenian. It also carries programmes for visitors in English, French and German.
Third programme (FM:94.8 ΜΗz, 94.0 ΜΗz and ΜW:903 KHz) has been on the air since September 1990 and steadily tops ratings for all radio stations in Cyprus, boasting thousands of overseas Cypriots as its most loyal listeners. It carries news and current affairs, talk shows on current issues of general interest, all in Greek, as well as athletic musical programmes, with the participation of listeners.
Fourth Programme (FM:88.2 ΜΗz, 90.2 ΜΗz) first aired in 2002 and was re-named “the Fourth” in 2006. It transmits Greek and international music in the easy listening format. It also relays news bulletins broadcast by the First and Third Channels, as well as the main TV news bulletin at 20.00 hours Cyprus time.
Television
CyBC operates two television channels, CyBC-1 and CyBC-2, with news, current affairs, sports, and culture and entertainment programmes running on a 24-hour basis. It also operates a satellite service with programmes targeting Cypriot communities in the UK and other European countries, the Middle East, Australia, USA, Canada, Latin America, South Africa and other African and Asian nations.

The CyBC website at www.cybc.com.cy carries live streaming television and radio news and programmes, as well as on-demand re-runs.
European Broadcasting Union
CyBC is an active member of the EBU and participates in the Eurovision news and programmes exchange for both television and radio. It participates in the annual Eurovision Song Contest, Junior Eurovision Song Contest, and contests for Young Musicians and Young Dancers.
Publications, Films, Records
CyBC has produced numerous documentary films about Cypriot life, history, culture, travel and other subjects. Some have won prizes at international film and documentary festivals. It also publishes books covering a variety of topics and CD recordings of the CyBC Popular Music Orchestra.
International Relations
In addition to the EBU, CyBC is also an active member of Circom Regional, The Permanent Conference of Mediterranean Audiovisual Operators (COPEAM), and the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association (CBA). CyBC is a founding shareholder of Euronews.
