History
In December 1992 the Polish Parliament passed the Broadcasting Act which became effective on 1 March 1993. In accordance with the Act, Telewizja Polska and Polskie Radio - joint stock companies of the State Treasury, public-legal institutions - were established on 1 January 1994.

TVP
Telewizja Polska (TVP) broadcasts on two national channels (TVP1, TVP2), the news and regional channel TVP INFO, one satellite channel TV Polonia and theme channels: TVP Kultura TVP Sport , TVP Historia and TVP HD.

TVP1 and TVP2 broadcast nation wide and reach 99% and 93% of the Polish population respectively. On 31 March 1993 regular broadcasts of satellite channel TV Polonia were launched. TV Polonia covers the whole territory of Europe, reaches Israel and Kazakhstan as well as the countries of North and South America.

TVP’s activity is financed by licence fees (main source of income) and advertising, as well as sales of services and licences.
Technical equipment used by TVP meets modern standards. All the programmes are broadcasted in the PAL system. The VTR formats are B, C, Betacam SP and Digital Betacam. All the TVP’s channels broadcast teletext.

TVP INFO
TVP INFO started on 6 October 2007 ( it was change from TVP3 Regional that was created on 3 March 2002 out of the 12 regional channels of TVP).
Nowadays it consists of a network of:
- 16 regional branches: Bialystok, Bydgoszcz, Gdansk, Gorzow Wielkopolski, Katowice, Kielce, Krakow, Lublin, Lodz, Olsztyn, Opole, Poznan, Rzeszow, Szczecin, Warszawa, Wroclaw
- 10 local redactions
- 32 corresponding points.

TVP INFO reaches around 82% of the population of Poland (31 600 000 viewers).
As regards its audience TVP INFO is constantly increasing the amount of its viewers. The most popular programmes reach up to 2 000 000 viewers.

Within this framework, the regional branches provide around 3 hours 40 minutes of their local programme daily.

TVP INFO is a news channel. TVP INFO airs also transmissions of the Parliament sessions (roughly 30 hours every month).

Regional branches also prepare programmes to be included into the nation wide programming of TVP1, TVP2 and TV Polonia - documentaries, dramas, sports etc.

The Bialystok branch was establishes in 1996. It covers north-east Poland. The programme is influenced by the specific multiethnic and multicultural character of the region. The station co-operates with Grodno TV, and makes programmes about Polish minorities in Belarus, Ukraine, Lithuania, as well as the Gypsies and Tartars in Poland.

For many years Poznan has specialised in classical music - it co-organises and records music events.
