"Teleradio-Moldova" Public Company

 

Beginning with 2nd of August 2004, after completing the process of renewing its stuff, the former State Company “Teleradio-Moldova” started to act as Public National Institution of Broadcasting “Teleradio-Moldova”. According to its status, the Company is an independent in its editorial and creative activity service of public Radio and Television. It is a service with institutional independence formed on public financial funding, ensuring in the spirit of pluralism of opinions the full realization of citizen’s right to a complete, veracious and operative communication of information.
Since 2008 its TV channel Moldova 1 broadcasts 24 hours per day, completing the programs grid with films, programs acquired abroad. Last year, the total amount of emission reached the value of 7666, 73 hours. From them 2253,35 hours were dedicated to entertaining program (mostly movies), 628,4 hours dedicated to news programs and 446 hours to cultural, religious and ethic programs. Thus, Teleradio Moldova is accomplishing its major role of public service of broadcasting: to inform, to educate and to entertain.
The Television covers 96% of Moldavian territory as well as the boarding areas of Romania and Ukraine with approximately 8 million viewers in all.
Launched on 1st of January 2007 the TV channel Moldova International broadcasts via satellite in the whole Europe and Eastern part of Russia. Ensuring thus that the most important current affairs and events are daily brought to Moldavian citizens wherever they are.
The broadcasting language is Romanian but the channel also broadcasts in the languages of national minorities – Russian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Gagauzian, Jewish-Ivrit.
85% of Company’s funding is provided by the state budget, while 15% come from TV commercials. The Company is opened to local and international co-productions in order to enrich its programs offer.
The television is run by a Director nominated by Council of Observers after a competition of selection. The Observing Council is formed of 9 members nominated by the Parliament on a term of 4 years. The Moldavian public television has widespread international relations with its colleagues from Western and Eastern Europe and with major international broadcasting organizations.
