In Hungary regular TV broadcasts have been going on since 1957. The Hungarian TV covers its costs by money alloceted by the Parliament of the Republic of Hungary, from viewers fees and advertising activities. The activities of the Hungarian Television are regulated by the Media Act of 1996.
The Hungarian TV is a public service TV broadcasting two programmes on a nation-wide level. The broadcasting time is a total of 12097 minutes, from which TV1 covers 7458 minutes and the TV2 4639 minutes. The broadcasting language is Hungarian, all films are dubbed, and sub-titles shows are minimal. Hungarian TV uses Beta SP for raw material.
Monday to Thursday broadcasts are for programmes for the ethnic minorities in Hungary, each group has 30 minutes. Their programmes are subtitled in Hungarian for the Hungarian audience. There are 5 regional studios in the Hungarian Television framework:

These broadcast local programmes and at the same time they also offer a regional news programme, for times a day. They also produce a regional magazine and air it on Friday from 13.35 to 14.25 on m1.

The station has 1.017.432 viewers. It has 4 OB vans plus a studio. The types of programmes are news, magazines, entertainment for the region and for Hungary. South Transdanubia consists of 3 countys. The region covers 14.225 sq. miles and has 1.170.000 inbhabitants. Pécs (population 185.000) is the cultural, commercial and economic centre of the area. Other important cities are: Kaposvár and Szekszárd. The region is one of the most colourful areas of Hungray. It is bordered by the biggest lake in Central Europe, Lake Balaton, from the north, the river Danube from the east and by river Drava fromt the south. The region is one of the most important tourist centres of Hungary. Hungarian Television's regional studio at Pécs is broadcasting programmes in Hungarian, Croatian and German languages since 1976. News programmes are regularly broadcasted and there are also regional programmes. The programmes for the ethnic minorities are broadcasted all over the country. The nation-wide programmes include the programme for handicapped people "Sorstársak". The Regional Television of Pécs also produces documentaries and art programmes. All the regional television throughout Hungary produce common news programme every day. Since the Regional Television of Pécs belongs the Hungarian National Television, it is financially dependant of it. The Regional Television of Pécs is co-operating with the Alp-Adria collective, the Croatian Television (Zagreb) and The Deutshce Welle in Cologne.

The Szeged Regional Television is a part of the Hungarian State Television. It is a public service television with no commercial interest. The regional programme can be received in a range of 100-120 kilometres. Approximately 2 million people live within this area. Altogether, with the inhabitants of the neighbouring Romania and Serbia, about 3 million people can see the programmes. Usually they broadcast these regular programmes daily the three news programmes and weekly the magazine.
There are four different types of programmes:
* Regional entertaining weekend programme on every Friday between 13.35-14.25 * There are programmes for the Romanian and Slovakian minorities. * Kvartett which is produced within Circom.

This area is industrial with a city of 250.000 inhabitants at its centre. The total number of viewers is approximately 600.000. This regional studio takes part in the work of the Circom co-production of Kvartett.

The Regional Television of Debrecen is also part of the Hungarian Televison Ltd, and financed from the central budget. It provides programmes for approximately 500.000 viewers. The area of broadcasting is mainly agricultural with one important central city Debrecen (200.000 inhabitansts). This regional television only broadcasts in Hungarian.

In the broadcasting area of the Regional Studio of Sopron there are 2.5-3 million inhabitants with approximately 700.000 televison sets. This studio has the biggest area, this includes six counties.
This regional studio deals mainly with the capital of Hungary and the most developed county Pest. The regional studio is located in the central building of the Hungarian Television, in the heart of the city.
