ERT 3, the third Hellenic State Radio and Television Channel is an offspring of the union of the two regional broadcasting stations, ET 1 and ET 2, which were operating individually in Thessaloniki since 1978.

In September 1988, ET 3 was established as the only regional branch TV station of ERT S.A.

In 1994, according to a legislative regulation, ERT 3 was declared the autonomous branch of ERT S.A. with administrative, financial and programming independence.

With this status, the annual budget is subsidized by 10% of the annual budget reciprocal fee, which is detracted by all electricity consumers and reaches the amount of 11.738.811 Euros per year for ERT 3.

Nowadays the station operates around the clock with news broadcasts, documentaries, Greek and foreign films, international TV series, sports, entertainment and European cultural programmes.

ET3, the TV branch of ERT3, also participates in the Balkan TV Magazine coproduction with other Balkan public TV stations.

Radio Station of Macedonia is the radio branch of ERT3, with three stations, FM 102 and FM 958, both on AM and FM and a short wave station for Greeks living abroad.
