Europe’s most prestigious awards for regional television are bigger than ever and offer more than 30,000 euros to winners in 2012. This is evidence that, despite difficult economic circumstances, Europe’s public service broadcasters have maintained quality standards and service to viewers and take pride in their achievements. Two new awards have been created. The Council of Europe will sponsor an award to honour Investigative Journalism and France Télévisions will support an award for programming about Minorities in Society. These awards alone demonstrate the strong public purpose of Europe’s regional broadcasters. The full list of 10 category awards and sponsors is: Documentary (Dutch Cultural Media Fund, The Netherlands), Video Journalism (BBC, UK), Magazine and News Magazine (TVP, Poland), Rising Star (TVR, Romania), Most Original (RTVSLO, Slovenia), Social Interaction (SVT, Sweden), Sport (ERT, Greece), Fiction/Drama (TG4, Ireland), Investigative Journalism (Council of Europe), Minorities in Society (France Télévisions, France). In addition, the Grand Prix is sponsored by European and global satellite distribution company, SES-Astra, and will be awarded to the best programme of all entries.

The Best Regional Television Programmes In Europe
Every year, the Prix Circom Regional honours the best regional productions. These are the most important international awards for regional programmes and were first presented in 1990.
Categories change from year to year. For instance, in 1992 the awards were for Best Documentary, Best Direction, Best Fiction and Best Cross-Border Programme. In 1993, there was an award for Best Youth programme.
The award juries comprise experts working as producers in regional stations. The awards are presented at the Circom Regional Annual Conference, hosted every year by a national network in a regional centre.
