The General Secretariat of CIRCOM Regional hosted the General Assembly Meeting of PHAROS that took place from 23rd to 25th September 2009 in Nuremberg, Germany. On the first day Peter Sauer, General Secretary of CIRCOM, welcomed the members of the PHAROS Consortium at Bayerischer Rundfunk. The PHAROS Consortium is composed of 12 partners from 9 different European countries; together they constitute a cohesive team of international academic excellence and industrial strength, committed to revolutionizing the way in which we think of search. Besides the General Assembly meeting the event was composed of several workshops where different working groups operated effectively. Following the meeting, Peter Sauer offered a guided tour to the Consortium Members and delivered insight in the daily workflow of a professional public broadcast station.

PHAROS is the European research project on audiovisual search. PHAROS (Platform for searcHing of Audiovisual Resources across Online Spaces) is an Integrated Project co-financed by the European Union under the Information Society Technologies Programme (6th Framework Programme) – Strategic Objective ‘Search Engines for Audiovisual Content’.
The PHAROS mission is to advance audiovisual search from a point-solution search engine paradigm to an integrated search platform paradigm. This platform will be built on an innovative, open, and distributed architecture that enables consumers, businesses and organizations to unlock the values found in audiovisual content.
