The Best Regional TV Programmes and Skills

Winners of the 2022 awards for the finest content and skills in European regional television broadcasting and media delivery, were announced on April 13 2022. The outstanding performance this year is by NRK (Norway) which won four of the 11 categories.

The judges, face-to-face for the first time in three annual competitions, met in Sitges, near Barcelona, Spain, from 4-7 April, hosted by CCMA Catalonia. They viewed more than 130 entries from Europe’s public service media organisations covering programme genres and production skills – including, for the first time, a category Digital Multimedia.

The winner of the Grand Prix – The documentary First Do No Harm – The Real France (D'abord ne pa nuire – La France en Vrai) - was announced on May 26th in a gala awards ceremony during CIRCOM Regional Annual Conference in Galway, hosted by TG4 (Ireland).

Winning stations receive a trophy, 1000 euros and travel to and accommodation at the awards ceremony. The Grand Prix winner receives a further 2000 euros in cash and another trophy.

Mojca Recek, Co-President of the Prix CIRCOM and Chair of the juries, said:
“It has been an honour to be a Chair of the juries. Such a pleasure to be back to a face-to-face gathering! The Prix CIRCOM sets a benchmark standard of excellence to which all producers, all directors and all stations can and should aspire. All regional stations, even smaller with fewer resources, should feel more confident to enter the competition.”

David Lowen, Co-President of the Prix CIRCOM and Chair of the juries, said:
“Once again, we have clear evidence of the quality and range of public service media, exemplified by the outstanding performance of NRK: congratulations. We thank our hosts, TV Catalonia (CCMA). We thank the judges for their hard work and decisions. We thank the CIRCOM support team for its management of the event and, especially, Mojca Recek, for leading the juries so effectively in her new role.”

Fernando Ojea, Secretary General of CIRCOM Regional, said:
The President of CIRCOM Regional Jean-Marc Dubois and I visited the judges’ gathering in Sitgès to praise that the CIRCOM in-person activity is back and to appreciate the CCMA-Catalonia unwavering hospitality.  The work of Mojca, the Judges and the Secretariat proved excellent. Through them we know now this list of superb productions and professionals that we are proud to award as the best in Europe“.

Jordi Fortuny Batalla, host of the judging, said:
It has been very positive that the jury meeting of the Prix CIRCOM has finally been held in Sitges, Catalonia, more than two years after it was planned. It is a sign of returning to normality. It is good news that the Prix CIRCOM managed to overcome challenges the pandemics posed.   A meeting like this is valuable and enriching both for the participants and for all CIRCOM public broadcasters because they allow you to see how everyone copes with changes.”
