Fourteen more Circom trained Video Journalists

Circom training has just completed it’s 11th Video Journalism workshop held in Budapest, Hungary.  14 delegates representing 9 countries and 11 TV stations took part in the training over a period of 10 days.

The course covered many aspects of small digital camera operation, theoretical and practical exercises, as well as delegates having to generate stories as a video journalist in Budapest.

Some of the stories included the building of the new metro in Budapest,  the collapse of the property boom, a night club that rips off tourists, how students are using Hungarian universities to get the grades they didn’t get back home and  the work of the Peto Institute to help handicapped people from across Europe.

The training team was led by Karol Cioma, Circom’s Training Project Manager,  and included Darko Flajpan a Video Journalist from HRT Croatia, Glen Mulcahy, RTE Ireland’s Production Development Manager and Abigail Neal, a BBC Wales Broadcast Journalist and VJ.

The delegates put in a lot of hours to master their camera and editing skills and the midnight oil was truly burnt to the last drop on more than one occasion.

Like all Circom training groups they made the social aspect of the course vigorous and entertaining but found time to exchange views and experiences about their work, the training and journalism within their countries.  Oh and they also had time to listen to each other’s attempts at karaoke...  Brave people.

Circom will be running the 11th video journalism course again in 2010.  It is a very popular course and in the word of one delegate it is “awesome”.  Don’t miss the opportunity next year.
